IF you look up Cyberjaya on a map prior to 1997, you probably wouldn’t find it. But since then, the city dubbed Malaysia’s Silicon Valley has grown by leaps and bounds, from a sleepy township into a preferred location for over 500 ICT, multimedia and services companies. Its population of about 41,000 is still increasing.
With beautiful lakes and parks as well as a thriving commercial area, Cyberjaya also boasts schools and universities set in a conducive environment.“It’s an ideal place to live, study, work and play,” says Cyberview Sdn Bhd general manager (business, corporate communications and planning) Rashid Mat.
To create a greater awareness of the township and its role, Cyberview (the land owner of Cyberjaya) is organising a writing competition called the Cyberjaya Writing Marathon 2011.
Running from today till Dec 7, the competition aims to stimulate creative thinking among students.
This inaugural event has two categories: Category A for secondary school students aged 13-17 and Category B for students at tertiary level aged 18-26.
The topic for Category A is “What Is Cyberjaya To Me” while that of Category B is “The Importance Of Cyberjaya For Malaysia’s Future”. Essays submitted must not exceed 500 words. Details at www.cyberview.com.my.
“Submission is through email. There are no entry fees and participants can submit more than one essay though each contestant can only win one prize,” says Rashid.
Participants stand to win RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM500 in cash for first, second and third places respectively. Each winner also gets an iPad2. Entries will be assessed for content, style, creativity and grammar.
The names of the winners will be announced in mid-December on our website,” he adds.
Sponsors for the essay contest include Mah Sing Group, UEM Land, Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, Prima Properties Management Sdn Bhd and Telekom Malaysia. NSTP Group is the media partner.
